In a fern valley, partnered with a tall forest too,
Stands a sturdy pale boardwalk that is stunning to view.
Trod by many local folk during all times of day
Who come to hear birds sing and branches that sway.
There are all types of greenery, sometimes squirrels as well
And these are feasts for eyes that on them dwell.
Dappled areas are playing with shadows and sunshine,
The mixture of dark and light on the boardwalk’s outline
May lift the spirits of some who are sad or stressed
Often being in Nature itself makes people feel blessed.
Most who journey the boardwalk’s twists and turns
Are glad their neighbors and friends to discern,
They greet each other with nods and often are smiling
Knowing that their surroundings indeed are beguiling.
Some walk quickly; acquiring many footsteps is their goal,
Others think strolling slowly with friends is good for the soul.
There are Aides pushing wheelchairs for those sitting there
And both are enjoying the bright fresh clean air.
The friendly wooden planks beneath our feet
Nearly rise up towards us, our happy feet to meet–
Smooth and evenly spaced, the entire walkway
Tells us life is good and that we are okay.
The carpenters’ hard work and super craftsmanship
That we watched being constructed strip by strip
All through last summer, on many days hot and long
Produced a raised sidewalk on which all could belong.
So we’re thankful to all who gave us this gift and treasure,
It adds to our beautiful outdoors a fixture of joy and pleasure!
